Growth doesn’t come from rushing forward – it comes from remembering what worked, what didn’t, and why we create at all.

Each year we choose new goals and do our best to find meaning in the work we do. Hoping to find purpose and move forward with renewed inspiration.

Why not gather as creatives and do this monthly?

Rooted to Remember is a community creative collective in collaboration with the Village Arts Factory and the Partnership for Arts and Humanities in Canton's Cherry Hill Village district.

The last Sunday of each month we’ll be hosting an afternoon workshop that highlights a creative subject, but also leaves plenty of room to simply chat, connect and work together. Everyone is welcome- even if you don’t actively create, you could have the key to someone’s new idea and motivate others!

A regularly scheduled fresh perspective can remind us to slow down and get back on track.

Creativity can be intimidating. Surrounding ourselves with support could be the reason we don’t give up on our craft.

Does your newest idea have legs? Being open to respectful constructive criticism from those who truly understand, can be a commodity that helps us grow tremendously.

Celebrating another person’s progress or your own, even if the project isn’t quite finished- can make all the difference in the success of the result. Ideas can grow when they are shared.

I have craved an honest community for quite some time, probably putting faith in the wrong people at times, but giving each one a chance and learning so much along the way. Luckily, this year I had the opportunity to witness successful community-based businesses that thrive on honesty and understanding. Watching their progress and hearing stories of their straightforward approach to negativity, has inspired me to develop a creative community that feels just as safe. We are gathering as a fun, open-minded, space for all- with productivity possible but not required.

We are collaboration over competition.

Intention instead of urgency.

Reflection as a creative action.

When we look back on our own work, we see how important each step was that got us here. Seeing someone new to a craft and helping them learn those first lessons, can re-inspire us in unimaginable ways. Each milestone builds the teacher and the student, mentor and mentee. Giving knowledge and support will always be interesting because you are now bouncing information from a new sounding board. Both of you processing and allowing feedback that will no doubt be utilized in a new and exciting way. How could we all not benefit from that?

As we step into 2026, I’m choosing to begin slowly and with intention. The first quarter of Rooted to Remember is free to attend, because I believe meaningful community should be accessible – registration is required so we can plan accordingly. Drinks, snacks and learning materials provided.

Our January gathering will focus on The Art of Composition – an invitation to find calm in both our images and our words. Composition isn’t just visual; it’s how things are arranged, how stories are told, and how life begins to feel when everything has a little more room to breathe. Together, we’ll explore what calm composition can look like in our art and in our lives.

If you’re longing for a calmer way to create and connect, I hope you’ll join us.

hugs and love,
